Did a rouge photoshoot down at the Portland Convention Center. Just walked in the front door and setup a strobe with a softbox using battery packs. Found a blank wall. Was going to shoot until security booted me out without any kind of press pass. They walked by and smiled because everyone dressed up was dying to get their picture taken. Sort of why they dressed up in the first place. I had to capture the individuality, super fans and sheer nerdiness that is only at Comic Con! Click on image to see the whole photoshoot or click here.
Though known within the sneaker world as the creator of iconic silhouettes such as the Woven Footscape Chukka and the Air Yeezy II, Nathan VanHook‘s talents expand far beyond the sharp lines of footwear design. The senior footwear designer of Nike Sportswear has extended his creative hand to a new exhibition at One Grand Gallery, entitled “STROKING IT.” Intended to experiment with color and form, this solo exhibition finds VanHook dashing thousands of simplistic, delicate paint strokes over pop icons and found objects. With the admittedly erotic title, the artist also cheekily references the connection between brushstrokes and bringing pleasure. These film pics were taken at One Grand Gallery on January 10th for the opening reception of “STROKING IT.”
